Tetris Didn't Win at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Whenever a major honors show draws close, you'll find a demand to include additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, and you can find room for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles worldwide and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait generations.
